Max Harold Leggett was born in Jacksonville on October 9, 1937 to Calvin and Betty Leggett. Max went home to be with the Lord on September 28, 2009 at the age of 71. He was a life long resident of Oceanway in Jacksonville's Northside. After graduating from Andrew Jackson High School, Max was a barber in Oceanway while he earned his associate degree from Florida Junior College. He owned and operated M. H. Leggett Construction and spent 31 years on the Jacksonville Fire Department where he retired as a Battalion Chief. He retired as a result of being elected to the Jacksonville City Council where he served his term limit of 8 years. He was a member of North Jacksonville Baptist church for 34 years. He remained active in the community as a member of the First Baptist Church, Rotary International, Northside Businessmen's Club, Northside Civic Association, Baptist Children's Home, Safe Harbor Boys Home and Christian Professional Resource. Max was also a veteran of the Florida Air National Guard. One of his greatest joys was his weekly ministry in the jails and prisons. He is survived by the love of his life Elizabeth Leggett his bride of 48 years; children Scott (Genny) Leggett of Carlsbad, CA; Stephen (Natalee) Leggett of Jacksonville, FL; and Amy (Brian) Sewell of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren McKay, Peyton, Quinn and Emery Leggett of Carlsbad, CA; Christen, Zachary and Bradley Leggett of Jacksonville, FL; Max and Drew Sewell of Jacksonville, FL. Funeral services were held on Thursday October 1 at 10am in the main Auditorium of The First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, with Dr. Mac Brunson officiating. Private interment services were held in Ferreira, Jacksonville. The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Live 4 Legacy Foundation (P.O. Box 939, Yulee, FL 32041), a foundation to establish a boy's home on the family property. His legacy lives on!!
