DOWLING Albert Ray Dowling, Sr., 80 of Fleming Island, Florida went home to be with the Lord on July 17, 2012 from complications of dementia and other medical issues. He was born in West Monroe, Louisiana on September 17, 1931 to his late parents Albert F. Dowling and Raye Christie Dowling. He grew up in Lake Butler, Fl and Wilmington, NC. He was in the National Guard and also served in the Navy during the Korean War. He retired as a Firefighter with the City of Jacksonville after 32 years of service at Station 5. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Betty Halbrook Dowling of 57 years and four children, Becky Davidson (Terry), Ray Dowling (Darlene), Steve Dowling (Cyndi) and Jeanne Johns (David). He has eight grandchildren, Andy and Jacob Davidson, Carol-Anne and Austin Dowling, Tyler and Parker Dowling and Garrett and Julia Johns. He has one brother, Johnny Dowling (Linda) and one sister, June Garlock (Jerry) and many nieces and nephews. The viewing was on Friday, July 20 from 6:00 - 8:00PM at Hibernia Baptist Church, 7100 Highway 17 S, Fleming Island, Fl. followed by funeral services at the same location on Saturday, July 21 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Scott Yirka officiating. Archer Funeral Home in Lake Butler, Florida was in charge of the arrangements (386) 496-2008. Graveside was at North Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Alachua, Fl. on Saturday, July 21 at 2:30PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Hibernia Baptist Church or Community Hospice in Albert s name.
