Retired Jacksonville Port Authority Fire Department Chief Ronald L. Johnson, 76, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born March 11, 1940 to James and Ruth Johnson in Spartanburg, SC. Ron loved to go on cruises with his wife Mary. He also enjoyed playing golf and fishing as well as traveling through the country in his RV. Ron retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after 20 years of service and was also a fireman with the Jacksonville Fire Department for 17 years. He is survived by his wife of 25 years Mary, one son Tracy Lee Johnson, three sisters Joanne Kirby, Mahala (Ronnie) Lambert, Nancy Wilbanks all from Spartanburg, SC as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home 7242 Normandy Boulevard Jacksonville, Florida 32205 is serving the family. A visitation for friends was held in the chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from 11am-12pm. Interment services were held at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218 at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the American Heart Association , www.heart.org or to St. Luke's Childen's Hospital in Memphis, TN.
