PANNELL Clarence “Doug” Pannell, 67, passed away Monday, November 10, 2008 following his battle with cancer. Doug was born in Toccoa, GA on October 29, 1941 and lived in Jacksonville most of his life. He served his country in the Navy for 4 years and served on the Jacksonville Fire Department for 35 years before his retirement as Captain in 2003. He was a member of Deermeadows Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Iris Lynn Boree Pannell; three sons, Michael Douglas, his wife Elizabeth, Scott, his wife Angie and John David; three grandchildren, Dillion, Michael II and Irvin; sister, Marcille Jordan and brother-in-law Jerry Jordan of Toccoa, GA. Doug will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and caring friend to all who knew him. Funeral services were November 17, 2008 at 11am at Deermeadows Baptist Church, 9780 Baymeadows Road with Pastor Michael Riley and Dr. Paul Wrenn officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Memorial Park. The family received friends from 1-3pm, Sunday, November 16, 2008 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 729 South Edgewood Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society or the Northeast community Hospice.
