SHERMAN George A. Sherman, 60, of 292 Glenlyon Dr., Orange Park, FL died unexpectedly on Friday, November 29, 2002 at St. Lukes Memorial Hospital Center in New Hartford, NY. He and his wife had been visiting his sister, Ellen Miga of Barneveld, NY. He was born in Utica on June 13, 1942 son of Lewis Alvin and Helen Marion Yule Sherman. He graduated from New Hartford High School and served in the United States Navy from 1962-66 with the Hurricane Hunters. In 1972 he married Marcia Brown in Jacksonville. Mr. Sherman graduated from Florida Community College of Jacksonville with a degree in Fire Science. He was currently a Lieutenant in the Jacksonville Fire Department where he had worked for 34 years. He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses, Orange Park Congregation. He was also a member of the Florida Striders Running club and had run and volunteered in the Boilermaker Road Race and Heart Run and Walk, both in Utica, NY. He was instrumental in helping to organize Sara's Ride for Missing Children in 1995. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Jerard A. Sherman and his wife Heather of Middleburg, FL, a daughter, Dawn Sherman Berger and her husband Robert of Orange Park, two stepsons, Edward E. Goulet and his wife Lisa of Jacksonville and Richard K. Goulet and his wife Laurie of Camp Hill, GA and five grandchildren, Edward E. Goulet, Jr., Donny K. Goulet, Elizabeth M. Goulet, Alan K. Goulet, and Jared A. Sherman. He also leaves a sister, Ellen Miga of Barneveld, an aunt Elda Sherman of Oriskany, NY and two nieces Christine Miga Benedict of Clarkson, WA and Jennifer L. Miga of Ramsen. The funeral will be Friday at 2PM at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home 111 Blanding Blvd Orange Park, FL. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 5PM-8PM. In Lieu of flowers, friends may consider a donation to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children- Mohawk Valley, 247 Elizabeth St., Utica, NY 13501 in his memory.
