MEMBER PROFILE: JAMES Jim" White

Born September 18, 1932 in Jacksonville, Florida at the old St Lukes Hospital. parents were Charles & Mary White. One brother, Charles; three sisters, Margie, Gloria and Mary Lee. Attended John Gorrie High School.

As a youngster, Jim went after school to work learning carpentry at Harmonn Store Fixture Company on East Eighth Street.

In 1952 he joined the USMC at paris Island and was enlisted for two years.

In 1953 he met Jackie Babb at the Lacawanna Park in the swimming pool.  At the time, Jim had 1950 Chevrolet tag on Front that said "JAZZABELLE".

In 1956 Jim was hired on th the Jacksonville Fire Department by Chief Kelly. His first assignment was Ladder 4 and worked under Captain Earl Matthews.

He was promoted to Engineer at old Engine 7 on Old Kings Rd by Captain Bubba Cox.

Was promoted to Lieutenant at Squad 36. His Engineer was Bobby Dewitte.

Later he was transferred to be the Lieutenant at Engine 10 on Mc Duff.

His most memorable fire was a three story wooden hotel located at Laura & 8th.

Jim's hobbies: Fishing takes up the most of his time and he is a regular at the annual firefighter fishing tournament down in Deland. Second hobby is his self built cabin down in the Ocala National Forest. On most Fridays, Jim and Jackie would load up and go down to the cabin.

Jim's favorite saying is "FAKE IT" and you can tell by his ever worn ball cap and named his cabin, "CAMP FAKE IT". He even had "FAKE IT" put on his license plate!
