The officers and members of the Jacksonville Retired Firefighter Association are saddened to report that

Retired JFRD Lieutenant Jim High passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Lieutenant High retired in 1980 after 20 years of service.

At the time of his retirement he was assigned to Fire Station 44 and had previously served at Fire Station 13.

From his obituary:

James (Jim) Morgan High, 91 passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Hadlow Hospice Center surrounded by family. Jim was born in Clarkton, N.C. on February 22,1931 to the late Bertha Goodin and Thomas J. High. He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Tara Lee Dykes, his sisters, Wilbur Grey Smith and Betty McKee (Lamar) and brothers Rudolph K. and Harold High (Betty K).
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kathleen M. High, his daughter Jami Weherley (Mike), sister Dorothy Balland and niece Jean, his son-in-law Lester Dykes and grandson, Casey Dykes and sisters-in-law Violet High and Lanell Woods. Also children by marriage, Doreen Arteaga (Juan), Mike Austin (Renee) and Teresa Clark (Cecil) and his beloved grandchildren Patrick Austin (Chelsea and Tristan), Andrew Arteaga (Angie), Kristen Drennen (Matt), Megan Buhr (Dillon), Matthew Austin, Monique and Cecil Clark Jr. and great-grandchildren Shepard and Poppy Kay Drennen, several nieces and nephews, and her dear friend Ann Chaney (Carlton).
After graduating from Clarkton High School in 1949 he worked for CSX Railroad before joining the Air Force. He honorably served during the Korean War. Jim attended Jacksonville University before becoming a Jacksonville Firefighter for 20 years and also was the proud owner of Jimco Heating and Air Conditioning for 24 years. He was a dedicated and serving member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for many years. After retiring his passion was gardening in Keystone Heights, Fl and Burnsville, NC.
A visitation for Jim was held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Jacksonville, 8264 Lone Star Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32211. A celebration of life was held in his honor following the visitation at 11:00 AM. A committal service occured on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude or Shriners Children's Hospital.
