The officers and members of the Jacksonville Retired Firefighter Association are saddened to report that

Retired JFRD Engineer William "Bill" Summerlin, 78, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023.

 

He was hired 1/20/1975 and retired 1n 1995. He was assigned to station 43 in Maxville at retirement and station 48 on Blount Island in the 80's.
 

He was preceded in death by his parents Ivey and Lois Summerlin, Siblings Glen Summerlin and Enie Pelick and by his eldest son, Eric.

William left behind his wife of almost sixty years, Barbara, his youngest son, Bryan and his daughter Keri, grandchildren, Kyle, Nicholas, Rosalee, Alexis, Ethan and Austin and six great grandchildren.

William served proudly in the U.S. Army, 5th Special Forces upon graduating high school. He served as Green Beret, airborne medic. After serving his country, he returned to serve the city of Jacksonville as a firefighter/paramedic for twenty years. Retiring only to return to his electrical business retaining his master electricians license. Retiring yet again, spending his remaining years with his wife, Barbara, children and grandchildren.
